The Magnificent Seven (1960): Some interesting accents going on here. 3/5
“They were looking for something like a new algorithm — but there isn’t any algorithm that’s going to eradicate guinea worm.”
I pulled out my old paper journal to make an entry. I haven’t used this particular book since ‘07, though I have another notebook for related projects.
Another double header this weekend: The Twilight of the Golds at RCP and Empty Closets at Castaways Rep.
And the cluster’s snow plow has just arrived. Doubtful that my spindly holly tree will survive the load of slush on its branches.
Light rain downtown at 3:00, but out here in the western suburbs it’s snowing hard. Stay safe, people.
Trash truck making a pickup at the middle school: it must be 6:30 and time to arise.
Tonight, for our first class, we looked at Montgomery County zoning maps.
Well, it took until p. 306 (mind you, I’m not recording everything, only chunks), but I found 2 paragraphs in Decision Points that read as sincere and that I can fully endorse: one condemning protectionism and isolationism, and one promoting independent commissions to set congressional districts.
Silver Spring Stage’s Blackbird yesterday, and tonight, The Diary of Anne Frank at Fauquier Community Theatre.
Today’s rule of thumb (and literally): 2 ridges of fingerprints = 1 mm.
Ann is no longer in pain.
I feel slightly well-read: I’ve read 2 of the 16 books in this year’s Tournament of Books: the Franzen and the Bender.
Last night’s American Ballet Theatre was very fine. Live music makes such a difference.
The packaging for my brand of deodorant says, “New look soon!” with some kind of white sash. First time that I’ve seen a brand manager give me a heads-up that the graphics will be changing.
Les Herbes folles [Wild Grass] (2008): French obsession. 3/5
At sunup, another lovely sky in layette colors: pink and blue.
Wow, out my office window, I can see a big ol’ crane at work on the Wiehle Avenue station.
“I’ll give you the Reader’s Digest Condensed version…”—so twentieth century and wordy. “I’ll give you the Tumblr version…”—short and to the point.
Oh, Dan, with so many options for spending my indignation dollars, you always provide good value.
I have been quite the networking beastie these past few days. So why are there no professional business cards in my pockets?
So help me, Michael J. Fox, I picked up Decision Points to read in the studio. Well, Laura Miller wrote that this is a year to read something outside your comfort zone. And we have a local student who requested the recording.
Chewink is an old common name for towhee.
Yep, the name of the Washington NFL team is still offensive. But try telling that to the guys wearing the pig noses. (Thx: DCist)
Today is the Feast of the Epiphany. Take your Christmas lights down, people.
The sucky you will always have with you: Never said about restaurant websites (Thx: TMN)
Rough crossing: several walk signals are knocked askew by the recent high winds.
Stereo Stack. Yep. (Thx: TMN)
True Grit (2010): Yes, they do make ‘em like that anymore. 4/5
Jerking the chain of an e-mail scammer: always a good time.
